On Sunday night, Carey’s 2013 film The Great Gatsby was awarded two awards at the 86th Academy Awards, for Best Achievement in Costume Design (Catherine Martin) and Best Achievement in Production Design (Catherine Martin and Beverley Dunn).

The Great Gatsby triumphed over fellow nominees American Hustle, The Grandmaster, The Invisible Woman and Best Picture winner 12 Years a Slave for Best Costume Design, turning Martin into the most successful Australian in Oscars history.

Martin spoke to ABC before the ceremony and praised the nominations for The Great Gatsby team: “Along with the AACTA awards, it marks a great shift, I think, for our industry in recognising that we can make any story in [Australia].” Catherine Martin now has four Oscars after previously winning for her work on Moulin Rouge!, also directed by her husband Baz Luhrmann.
