Carey Mulligan is set to be the cover star of the Harper’s Bazaar December UK issue. It appears as though no official images have been released yet, but a number of subscriber-only covers have been spotted up on Instagram, including the one below from worlds_moda – isn’t it gorgeous? Hopefully more images from the shoot will arrive online soon.
Hollywood star Carey Mulligan returned to her Welsh roots today as she joined her mother and grandmother for a walk in the fight against dementia.
The award-winning actress, who has appeared in The Great Gatsby opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, is an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society and was keen to be among the 1,700 participants at the Swansea Memory Walk.
As well as taking part in the 10km trek, the Bafta-winning actress opened the event at Swansea Marina which is expected to have raised tens of thousands of pounds for people with dementia and their carers.
She was joined on the day by her mother Nano Mulligan, who is from Llandeilo, and her grandmother, Nans, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2002 when Carey was a teenager and now lives in a care home in Pontardawe.
“It has been inspirational to see so many people of different ages come together today to fight dementia,” said the actress who was recently seen in the National Theatre’s acclaimed production Skylight opposite Bill Nighy.
“I only ever had experience with Nans and how she went through it, but when you meet other people, you realise how different it is from person to person.
“It’s such an individual thing and that’s a reminder about how unique everyone is and how important it is to respect each person for who they really are.
“Our family lives with dementia and we have seen how devastating it can be. I can’t imagine how we would deal with it if we didn’t have the help that we have – the amazing home that Nans is in and the incredible support of Alzheimer’s Society.”
Memory Walk is Alzheimer’s Society’s flagship fundraising event which sees walks taking place around the UK throughout the autumn. It is a day to walk, share and celebrate someone special and everyone walks with one common goal: to defeat dementia.
Funds raised from Swansea Memory Walk will be used to support people living with dementia and their carers and to fund research into finding a cure.
Carey Mulligan has become War Child UK’s latest global ambassador.
The Great Gatsby actress will help the organisation fund raise and promote its work in war zones around the world.
She decided to join the charity after her brother came into contact with War Child UK during his time serving in Afghanistan.
On her new role, Mulligan said: “When I started to learn about War Child’s programmes, I knew immediately that I wanted to be involved.
“It’s unbearable that the places that are being targeted are the very places that children should be safe. Children no different to my 3-year-old godson. Children are children, no matter where they are in the world and they should have no place in war.”
War Child UK’s CEO, Rob Williams, added: “We are really delighted that Carey has chosen to work with us to protect children caught up in conflict zones. I know that her commitment to this is immensely strong, based on a deep concern for children facing extreme situations in conflicts around the world.”
Mulligan will travel abroad later this year to see the work carried out by War Child UK. She will also take part in the charity’s BBC Radio 4 appeal, which will be broadcast on Sunday (September 28).
There had been a buzz in the air, but it has finally been confirmed that Bill Nighy and Carey Mulligan will be travelling across the pond to star in the Broadway transfer of David Hare’s Skylight.
The show, staged by Stephen Daldry, tells the story of a teacher named Kyra Hollis (Mulligan) who receives an unexpected visit from her former lover Tom Sergeant (Nighy), a successful restauranteur who’s wife has recently passed away. As the night progresses, the pair try and rekindle their romance, but are both met with opposing ideologies and desires. The show also stars Matthew Beard.
Skylight finished its West End at the Wyndham’s Theatre in August, and as of March 16, 2015 will be showing at John Golden Theatre for a limited 13 week run. The show was met with critical acclaim (THN even gave it five stars!) and according to producer Scott Rudin, recouped its show budget after just five weeks. There is no doubt that this show will get Tonys a-buzzing next year!
Things have been pretty quiet around here whilst Carey has been busy appearing in Skylight for the past few months, but hopefully once the show finishes its run (next Saturday), we will have some new projects to look forward to, including Far from the Madding Crowd and Suffragette. In the meantime, here’s a lovely HQ shot of Carey with her Skylight cast that appeared in Vogue to promote the show.

Sorry these are so late, I’ve had them sat on my computer for weeks and only just realised that I’d not uploaded them to the gallery. I’ve just added 13 lovely HQ images of Carey from the press night for Skylight, which took place on June 18. Enjoy!
I’ve just updated the gallery with some stills and posters from Carey’s current theatre production Skylight – who has tickets for this? I’m off next weekend, I can’t wait to see it!
