I am in the midst of capping Ms. Mulligan’s award-winning performance in An Education, but for now, here are the extras from the DVD – over 500 captures of deleted scenes and a featurette. Expect the film caps up asap – Enjoy!
Effie, a film based on the relationship between Victorian poet and artist, John Ruskin and his unfortunate wife Effie Gray will go into production next month. The film is written by Emma Thompson who will also play Lady Eastlake, and the Oscar-nominated Carey Mulligan will be in the starring role of Gray.
Richard Laxton is directing and Thompson’s husband, Greg Wise, is to produce the film and play the part of Ruskin. According to thefancarpet he and Thompson asked Mulligan to take the part before her success in An Education:
“Carey has a rare quality of being open and unfettered. At the time Effie said she would have borne anything, had Ruskin just been kind. But I can’t play him as an ogre because the audience need to understand why she married this man.”
Ruskin and Gray’s unconsummated love affair will be central to the plot of the film. United on his wedding night in April 1848 with Effie Gray, the girl who had been the object of some of his most beautiful writing during their courtship, Ruskin suddenly realizes he has made a mistake and postpones the consummation.
Carey Mulligan feels old.
The ‘An Education’ actress – who is dating actor Shia LaBeouf – admits her work and life experiences make her seem much older than her 24 years, though she is still a teenager at heart.
She said: “I think I feel older. You meet a lot of people much older, one of my closest friends in an actor called Denis Lawson who is in his fifties. I met him when I was 20 on ‘Bleak House’ and we are bonded by an experience and so yes, in some ways I feel older but in some ways I feel like a 13 year old.
“But also, I’ve been working, I have a career, I’ve bought my own flat, I have a mortgage – so sometimes I feel annoyingly grown up and I don’t want to be but most of the time I feel 12.”
The ‘Public Enemies’ actress also admitted she won’t carry on acting forever.
She said: “I have always wanted to keep going for as long as I want to but then I will stop if I get bored or if I get frustrated or tired – but I don’t feel it.”
David Fincher is reportedly circling the English language adaptation of the first installment in Stieg Larsson’s best-selling “Millenium” series, “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.”
Already adapted into an award-winning Swedish language trilogy, the English-language version is being produced by Scott Rudin at Sony with Steve Zaillian (“Schindler’s List,” “American Gangster”) adapting. It’s development seems to making progress with the studio also reportedly having an actress on top of its wishlist for the role of the Lisbeth Salander, a socially-awkward, computer hacking genius: Carey Mulligan. Though no deals have been made yet, Sony is apparently very happy with the work Fincher has done on “The Social Network,” itself an adaptation of a Ben Mezrich book.
Fincher has already ventured into crime-thrillers, of course, with “Se7en” and “Zodiac” but had previously shown an interest in returning to the genre with an adaptation of “Torso” that had Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Rachel McAdams attached. Whether Larsson’s worldwide literary hits are the re-entry point into the genre Fincher was after remains to be seen.
The project, which is loaded with franchise potential, is predicted to spark a lot of interest. The lead male role of womanizing journalist Mikael Blomkvist has also been linked to George Clooney though that seems to be more internet-casting than anything substantial. Having said that, we’d take a Fincher-Clooney-Mulligan project any day of the week.
Niels Arden Oplev’s Swedish-language take on “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” meanwhile hits theaters March 19th.
Some general movie news wrap up for those who are curious: the premiere date for Wall Street 2 has been pushed back to September 24, where the film will be entered in the Cannes Film Festival. According to this source, Fox and Oliver Stone believe that it would be an opportunity to launch the film to a worldwide platform.
An Education will be released on March 30 in both DVD and Blu-ray format. You can pre order your copy here and you can expect pretty screencaptures when it’s released!
British starlet Carey Mulligan, who was nominated as best actress for An Education, yelped as a waiter trod on her long train and later had a lengthy chat with Oscar-winning best director Kathryn Bigelow.
Despite being one of the stars of the show Mulligan admitted she had no job lined up for after the Oscars.
“I’m using this as an open casting,” she told The Daily Telegraph. “It’s been wild, awesome. My mum was crying like it was a Broadway show tonight. Kathryn Bigelow is fantastic. I’m so happy for her and she’s been so nice about our film.”
Mulligan, 24, in a strapless Prada gown, said it hadn’t been easy adapting to Oscar week, saying she was a bit of a tomboy. “It’s difficult for women because you have to think about the clothes and the shoes and I’m more of a flats girl,” she said.
She realised how far she has come as she presented an award at the ceremony along with Avatar star Zoe Saldana.
“I looked over at Quentin Tarantino and he was looking at me. It was amazing,” she said.
Alec Baldwin blogged about the Academy Awards and the Vanity Fair Oscar Party and mentioned several things he will remember most from the night. Carey was one of the memorable moments!
Carey Mulligan at the Vanity Fair party. I talked with her briefly and thought, “This young woman has everything, absolutely everything, to have a great career in the movies.”
The official website for The Greatest has been launched at TheGreatestTheMovie.com. You can view the official trailer at the site but unfortunately there is no other information on the site so far. Judging by the trailer it looks like a beautiful movie!
Two posters of the movie were released so far and they have been added to the gallery along with captures of the trailer.
I’m not sure how much truth there is to it but several sources are reporting this. I simpy cannot believe Carey is not getting any offers! I’m hoping for other articles to clarify more on it.
CAREY Mulligan claims she doesn’t have any work in the pipeline.
The British beauty — who missed out on the Best Actress gong at the Academy Awards Sunday night — says she doesn’t know what she’s going to do next.
“This is all a dream come true for me. But I don’t have another job yet so I don’t know what I’m going to do — maybe the dole,” said Mulligan, who recently finished shooting Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
“I have yet to be offered another role. You never know when this is going to end. Hopefully it won’t be just yet.
“I never thought I would land a role in a movie, let alone be nominated for an Oscar.”
Carey, 24, recently admitted she can’t get her head around being dubbed the new “It girl” of young Hollywood.
“I do find the ‘It’ thing weird though,” she said. “And It girl to me has always meant somebody who is like a socialite. It girl implies a party girl to me, which I’m not really.
“The other stuff is just beyond strange for me. That is difficult for me to comprehend. It’s good. It just feels very weird.”
